“I Take Full Responsibility” — Upeksha Swarnamali

Recent UNP defector Upeksha Swarnamali, who played “Paba” in the eponymous teledrama, has said she takes “full responsibility” for her actions. UNP MP Rosy Senanayake said she met Swarnamali on Thursday evening as they were shooting for the Megastar programme on Swarnavahini.
Upon being asked by why she had decided to defect, Swarnamali had said, “I take full responsibility for my actions,” according to Senanayake. She added that as she had decided not to contest a second time, she would take what was offered to her. “Her only regret was she felt she didn’t do right by God,” said Senanayake.
The statement comes amidst a multitude of news reports alleging Swarnamali was physically abused by her own husband, who forced her to cross over.
According to the news reports, Swarnamali’s husband physically attacked her and threatened to divorce her if she did not support the 18th Amendment. It was further alleged that UPFA MP Sajin de Vaas Gunawardena offered Swarnamali’s husband Rs. 50 million if he could induce his wife to join the Government. She attended a UNP protest within the parliamentary complex, wearing a black sari, and sporting visible bruises. Immediately after that, it was said she met the President at Temple Trees, accompanied by her husband and MP Sajin Vaas Gunawardena. Despite the scrutiny however Swarnamali maintained that the decision to cross over was purely her own on Thursday. Swarnamali’s phone has been switched off over the course of two days when The Sunday Leader attempted to contact her.

He said Michael Jackson's personal doctor and paramedics tried to resuscitate him at his rented home in Holmby Hills. A team of doctors at UCLA Medical Center also tried for more than an hour.

Sri Lanka in to the semi finals

Sri Lanka's bowlers once again made up for their batsmen's inability to post a large total by slicing through New Zealand at Trent Bridge, securing a 48-run victory to cement their spot in the semi-finals of the World Twenty20. New Zealand challenged the target of 159 briefly but Ajantha Mendis turned the game Sri Lanka's way by dismissing Ross Taylor and Scott Styris within the space of four balls.

New Zealand began their chase brightly with Aaron Redmond biffing 20 runs off Sanath Jayasuriya's first over, the second of the innings. He blasted the ball past mid-on, carved it over cover, blazed another through extra cover before smacking the final over the long-off boundary. The versatility of the bowling, though, meant New Zealand's batsmen had to keep their wits about them and no one was able to stay long enough to cause significant damage.

Sanga sends Ausis home...

Sri Lankan new captain set up a quick 50 runs to send Australian T20 cricket team home. However Sri Lankan won over struggling Australia quite easily.T.M Dilshans sparkling innings and Sanagakkara led Sri Lanka to the victory.

Sri Lanka eliminated Australia from the ICC World Twenty20 with a six-wicket victory at Trent Bridge. Kumar Sangakkara played a captain's innings to lead them across the line, with an over to spare, as they chased 160 after Tillakaratne Dilshan sparked the pursuit with an innovative 53 off 32 balls. Australia were set back by a magnificent display from Ajantha Mendis, who bamboozled with his variations, and although the match went to the final over Sri Lanka always held the edge to book their Super Eights berth.

When Australia slumped to 94 for 6 in the 15th over the match was shaping to be very one-sided, but they added 65 runs in the last five overs to give the bowlers something to defend. However, they needed early wickets and despite a fine catch by David Warner to remove Sanath Jayasuriya the game was carried away from them through a fine innings from Dilshan.
